Recipes & Paid Subscriptions
We are now offering paid subscriptions for those who'd like to receive regular newsletters with our favorite recipes!
I’ve long used both writing and making food as ways to process, discover, and express my Asian American identity. It is a deep joy to feel closer to my roots through baking and cooking and to share the revelations with others.
For many years, this business was made up of just me, so I have become the “face” and “voice” of the business, especially on social media. Many of our Instagram/FB stories were top-down views of me recipe testing and walking through the baking process (quarantine bake along, IYKYK!) which people seemed to enjoy. However, I stopped posting this type of content a while back because after rebranding and opening Q, we are now made up of a team of people. I’m still the owner, but it’s not just me anymore and I want to keep Q’s content streamlined to shop-related updates without my ramblings and videos interspersed.
Enter paid subscriptions! For those of you who do want to read and see said content from me, this is for you. Paid newsletters are for those who would enjoy regular cooking/baking content and access to our favorite recipes, or who simply want to support my writing efforts. I’ve always loved sharing what’s going on in the kitchen and am excited to do that through this avenue.
I completely understand that people subscribe to our newsletter for various reasons. Some want to stay up-to-date on what’s going on, some want first dibs on preorders, some actually enjoy my writing (thank you!), and some never open a single newsletter and probably never will. Don’t worry if you are on the less interested end of the spectrum and don’t want to be bombarded. You will only get emails for our paid newsletters if you are a paid subscriber. Otherwise, you’ll continue to just receive our free newsletter updates.

I’ll be honest with you. Owning a bakery like Q is not a way to “get rich.” Margins are razor thin to begin with and ever-increasing costs don’t help. I’m not currently paying myself to ensure my team is taken care of and it will likely be a while until I can take a salary. That being said, I’m expecting my second child this summer and looking for ways to support as we transition to the four of us. Sharing recipes and writing through paid subscriptions is a way I can bring in a little income for my family. As much as I would love to offer free recipes to everyone, I do spend lot of time writing, researching, and recipe testing. I hope you see the value of what I’m trying to produce and find it worthwhile. No hard feelings if you don’t want to or can’t be a paid subscriber!
For those who have already pledged a certain amount in support, those pledges will turn into paid subscriptions when I activate those settings. It may have been a while since you originally pledged so if you are no longer interested, please feel free to opt out.
Thank you for joining me! I hope the recipes I share are ones that you come back to time and time again.
congratulations von your growing family and growing business -
